Adulting Isnt Easy These Tips Can Help
What are some of your top tips for adulting well?
I'm 30 now and I'd say that I've been "Adulting Well" for about 7 years.
As a result, I own a 7-figure business, have achieved total financial freedom, live by the beach, have an amazing girlfriend, I'm in the best shape of my life, and generally live a happy and amazing life.
Here are my tips to help you do the same.
(Important Note: Being an "Adult" is a matter of action and character … Not age. I know 40-year-old children and 16-year-old adults.)
Exercise daily
You owe it to yourself to take care of your body. I don't care if you run, bike, pump iron, or throw a frisbee with your dog. Work up a sweat every day and take care of your body like it's the only one you'll ever have … because it is.
Stop looking for handouts
From mom, dad, the government, friends, and rich relatives. Take care of your own shit and be self reliant. It will lead to far more confidence and satisfaction in the long run.
Listen more than you speak
No one really cares about your opinion. So shut up, listen to others, and provide value when possible. No one likes that guy who only talks about himself.
Sleep 8 hours a night
Quit playing Fortnite until 2 a.m. and prioritize your sleep. It will dramatically improve your performance and make you happier overall.
Quit getting sh-t faced
C'mon guys! Getting a little buzzed is fine. Heck, it's one of my favorite parts of the week. But getting so drunk that you can't even speak in a coherent sentence is definitely NOT something adults should do.
Take full responsibility for your life
No, it's not your parents' fault, it's not society's fault, it's not the school's fault. You and you alone are responsible for your life and results. Quit bitching about how unfair life is and DO something to change it.
Educate yourself daily
If you aren't expanding your mind and learning new things, you aren't a real adult. Adults know that times change and life moves at a crazy speed. So they do everything they can to stay ahead of the curve. Kids focus on entertainment. Adults focus on education.
Spend less than you earn
I don't care if you have to shower at your local gym and live out of your car. Don't finance your life on credit and don't blow your money on stupid purchases.
Have passions other than Netflix and Xbox
Sure, when you're a kid playing video games and watching TV is fine. But if you want to be an adult, you need to cultivate interests that don't involve a screen. Seriously… Pick up a paintbrush, a guitar, or something …
Don't be a d-ck
If you still yell at your server when your food is cold, scream at customer support agents, or flip off old ladies while you're in traffic … You're not just a child, you're also an ass hole. Be nice to other people. You never know when you'll need that kindness in return.
Work on something you love
Build a business, write a book, create a masterful painting. Create something of value for the world instead of just consuming crap all the time.
I.e. Sparingly. Kids waste their time worrying about "likes" and "follows" adults use social media as a tool to promote their brand and keep in touch with friends.
Have goals
If you aren't growing, you're dying. Stop sitting on the sidelines mindlessly consuming content and start making something of yourself. You only get one life… Make the most of it.
Don't let mommy and daddy make decisions for you
I know 30-year-old "men" who won't travel, break up with their girlfriend, or get a new job because they're worried about what their parents will think. I love my parents as much as the next person but guess what? They don't have to live my life! So I don't let them make big life decisions for me.
Be polite
Please and thank you goes a long way. Open the door for your elders. Let people get in front of you in traffic. And generally be a nice person.
Do what needs to be done
Whatever you want in life, you can have it. But you have to be willing to pay the price. So stop mentally masturbating to ideas of greatness and success and just do what you need to do to achieve it.
Hope this helps
Stay Grounded,
Andrew
